Who was she going to see? Is he Locke's real father? When her mother said "He's twice your age." could it be Richard and Richard is John's real father.

Yes, Emily was going to see John's real father. But, no, it wasn't Richard Alpert. Emily (John's mom) and Emily's mother (John's grandma) had no idea who Richard was when he was looking through the maternity ward window.

John's real father was Anthony Cooper (or whatever else you wanna call him), the ass who manipulated John into giving up a kidney and then pushed him out a window. For Anthony to be twice Emily's age at that point, he'd only have to be about 30, cause Emily was really young.

The question here is, "What was Anthony Cooper's relationship with the Island, Widmore, Mittleos, or Alpert prior to John's birth?" It's entirely possible that Cooper had some connection with one or more of these and that is why Locke was being watched from the start.

I do not think Emily was in the room when her mom said she had no idea who Richard Alpert was. Emily may know him.

But I agree, John' s real dad is probably Anthony Cooper - why else would Cooper want a kidney specifically from John?

However, if I were a sassy poodle-skirt-wearing teen in the 50's I"d much rather be deflowered by a smoldering hot Richard Alpert than a slick and arrogant Anthony Cooper.

Yes, but we don't know what Anthony Cooper looked or acted like back then, do we? Perhaps he was not so slick and arrogant back then. Perhaps being used by Mittelos changed him or something. Maybe we will get to see eventually.

That would be interesting... because there would be an analogy: Mittleos is to Cooper what Cooper is to Sawyer.... both corruptive forces turning young would-be decent people into con men freaks.

BTW, I thought they did a really good job casting a young version of John's mom, Emily. I could definitely see her growing up into the crazed eye-darting swearing-her-son-was-immaculately-conceived Swoosie Kurtz we met in "Deus Ex Machina."

Was John adopted? If so why is his last name still Locke?
Yes Emily wasn't in the room when Richard appeared through the window, she went out crying saying I cant do this. And when the nurse said "Is that the father?" Emily's mother looked as in disgust and said "I have never seen that man before." I re watched the episode.

John was raised in foster care. His last name would not have changed.

I was reserved on Anthony Cooper only because of the line "You needed a father and I needed a kidney". Since he was a con man I figured that's all he was-- a con man and not really John's father. I'm betting the father is much more significant than Anthony cooper, but I could be wrong.

If you were a con man and you needed a kidney would you select a balding toy salesman?

I would choose a young, virile salsa instructor who ate organically!

Also, Sawyer is connected to Cooper, plus the island brought Cooper over ... so Mr C. seems significant to me... (But you could be right, I wouldn't put it past them.)

      100% agreed on this.

That Cooper was the real father also makes a lot more sense given that we know Emily Locke was just completely left high, dry, underage, and knocked up. That sounds like an Anthony Cooper thing to do.

<<The question here is, "What was Anthony Cooper's relationship with the Island, Widmore, Mittleos, or Alpert prior to John's birth?" It's entirely possible that Cooper had some connection with one or more of these and that is why Locke was being watched from the start.>>

I'm much more inclined to believe that Alpert was drawn to the hospital by the tales of a "miracle child" born almost 3 months premature and not just surviving but kicking the ass of any opportunistic infection trying to take him out. John Locke probably wasn't the only "oddity" child Alpert investigated...he was just the only one we *saw* him investigate.

It's not 100% right - Emily was not in the room when Emily's mom was asked about Alpert.

The point you make supporting Cooper probably being the dad I had not thought of and I like -leaving Emily high and dry is indeed in character for him.
