Ms Hawkings (Stephen Hawkings, anyone?) seemed a bit desparate. I bet she was lying.
IF she was SOOO confident that "it doesn't matter/ the universe self-corrects" then pray tell why was she so urgently concerned about Desmond and the ring? Hm?
If you can't change anything, then why the concern? Why reveal yourself to Desomnd at all? Don't tell me it's out of a neighborly desire to help our boy adjust to his new way of experiencing life! A little precog-to-precog mentoring session, from the goodness of her heart... No,. Ms Hawkings revealed herself to Desomond because she is desparate and she knows he CAN change things.
I bet Charlie will live... perhaps someone else will die... and then Desomond will realize that for himself.

Re: The Lady is a Liar, Yes?
Sat, February 17, 2007 - 8:44 AMThis seems to make sense...and be the most compelling direction for Desmond's storyline...
If she's one of the others, then it only makes sense that she'd want him to stay on the course he was on...why release him from a terrible fate when she's stuck in her own terrible fate?
I say things are looking up for Desmond (and Charlie).

Re: The Lady is a Liar, Yes?
Sat, February 17, 2007 - 10:10 AMYeah, I think she is lying too. But I am not so sure she is one of the Others. At least not the Others that we have been introduced to thus far. Ben doesn't seem to have that kind of knowledge of things. Maybe she is one of the Order of Others above him or something. -

Someone in another thread said maybe she is Mrs de Groot? I like that idea.
Is she an Other? What kind? ...that's a good question. She does strike me as being a Dharma person. -

That was me.
I figured since the DeGroots have been missing this whole time, Katherine would be just about "Ms. Hawkes" age and Gerald is possibly Eye Patch guy.
And "Ms. Hawkes" sounds as legit a name as "Ms. Clue". Perhaps she's just in charge of space/time research?
And I agree. She was working overtime to convince Des he has no control over his destiny. Typical "other trick". Talking someone into a postion of weakness.
My question is...what is it she fears Desmond will do if he does exercise his free will?
Or perhaps, he has already done "it" and she's back in time, trying to make sure it does'nt happen again.
My brain hurts but I love it! -

Re: The Lady is a Liar, Yes?
Sun, February 18, 2007 - 11:55 AMok, if "the universe has a way of correcting its self" she wouldn't have had to emplore desmonde to not buy the ring. things would have just worked out, or not as the case may be. her actions run opposite to her message. did she ever explain how she knows everything? i dont recal. i think she took des to see that dude with the red shoes die to fool des into trusting her. the fact that the guy died and she knew about it dosn't mean he couldn't be saved as she claims. -

Re: The Lady is a Liar, Yes?
Mon, February 19, 2007 - 5:31 PMYou got it right, honey. Mrs. Hawkings, like Mr. Science God.
I believe Mrs. H is KEY to the story. A DeGroot? Nice. Could be... and I agree that her scare tactics were contrary to her preaching about the self-correcting universe. Time travel's a bitch, no? Really, it could be anything. But I'm pretty sure that this episode cleared up the mystery about Des having precognition - I think he knows the future cause he's been there before. Time travel all the way, baby. -

Interestingly, the real Hawking --the wheelchair-bound and brilliant cosmologist-physicist-mathematician who holds Issac Newton's post-- has just gone on a walkabout to Africa.

If someone says "no" to him on doing this then I'm sure he will laboriously peck out the reply "Don't tell me what I cannot do!" for his voice synthesizer to shout back to them.
Good for him! -
