Reads like a National Enquirer story title.

This morning I went off the LOST tribal reservation to hunt down any leads which might be out there regarding the LIFE magazine issue Caesar hauled out of the filing cabinet and riffled through. It looked like a real-enough LIFE cover from back in the day; the glimpse of the Creature making a cel phone call while abducting a babe was quite distinct. Sure 'nuf, turns out they used a real LIFE issue.

The path led swiftly to this site:

How cleverly hilarious that the babe which the Creature was lugging through the Black Lagoon turns out to be named Amelia and this living icon has actually appeared as an actress in LOST! Impressive.

In Hilo, Hawaii, stands a big banyan tree planted by Amelia Earhart before she disappeared and was LOST while flying across the South Pacific.

As with Frankenstein's Creature, this misunderstood and vexed Creature of the lagoon is roused to mighty passions by feckless scientists, testosterone-poisoned idjits with guns, and beautiful babes all run amok and perturbing it.

I remember as a boy purchasing a remarkably realistic latex Creature of the Black Lagoon full-head-covering pull-over mask, at Dizzyland. Ah, the fun I had with that smelly mask. Just after our return from Dizzyland to the rural countryside in northern California where our family lived at that time, my dad borrowed this horrific mask and drove over to the house of our friends and neighbors, the Breshears, about a mile away. As per usual, through their window they saw the truck pull up out front and watched him walk up the path to the front door, but just as Mrs. Breshear went to open the front door he pulled the Creature mask over his head so that he was standing there with it on when she pulled the door fully open. It was at least a mile to their house from ours, but I swear her scream sounded like she was in the same yard with me when she saw Dad lurching toward her in that Creature mask. Ah, good times.

Anyhow, thanks to ebay my copy of the April 19th, 1954, issue of LIFE magazine is now on its way to the house here in the mail and I particularly look forward to reading the cover story "Color Photos of Hydrogen Test" -the pink half-sphere we see on the cover must be from an exploding H-bomb, ala Jughead, vaporizing a remote Pacific island. Why would a copy of a 1954 magazine be in a DHARMA Initiative file cabinet all those decades later at the Hydra station? Probably not because of the Creature story, fun as that it is.
