In another thread Joyce commented:

"I really hate to chnage the subject, knowing that I am new to this gig and all, but check this out- google The Land OF the Lost 1974 and read through it- THe Leader of the Sleezaks was played by man named John Locke and read the info about the show, time paradoxes etc ! What do ya all think !!"

Interesting!

Last week I was over on the Big Island of Hawaii and while there caught the new "Land of the Lost" film playing at a cinema; delightfully stoopid-funny in an absurd way. Contains a bunch of the best images, elements and snippets incorporated together from a bunch of old Grade B Sci Fi films but done with a better budget, some tongue-in-cheek humor, and faster pacing than in the original versions. www.imdb.com/title/tt0457400/trailers

Since earlier in the day I was hacking around in the jungle with a machete and stumbling across old stone ruins (moss-covered rock walls and a cave entrance) seeing this film complimented the moment perfectly. I wondered while watching if there might be a LOST connection (especially given the Creature from the Black Lagoon tribute in LOST) but it all seemed too general to ascribe anything in particular. There is a time warp of sorts --plus a rather Dr. Arzt-like scientist-- but except for the time displacement aspect nothing seems to map over directly except for the crashed airplanes and ships. Crashed spaceships, aliens, and so on have been speculated about mightily in the LOST tribe but there is no solid evidence so far any of this exists in the LOST universe.

Joyce's comment, though, prompted me to google "Land OF the Lost 1974" for more on the old TV series and it seems from this read-
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Land...TV_series)
and
thatsmyskull.blogspot.com/2009/...w.html
-as if it might be fairly likely to have had some influence. A John Locke in both universes, unconnectedly? An interesting coincidence, if it is just a coincidence. I'd completely missed ever hearing about the Land of the Lost series, ever, so am now interested to find it on DVD. Thanks for the mention, Joyce!

Years ago I was into this band called Widespread Panic. I was on an email list for this band, as a way to get discussions like this. Information, discussion, reviews, etc. We fans called ourselves "Spreadheads", based on the "Widespread" in the band's name.

One day someone posted very excitedly about the Letterman show the night before. According to this guy, Elle McPherson had been on and she had mentioned that she liked spreadheads. The guy had flipped out that a supermodel was into the band and dug the fans.

What she had actually said was "I like redheads."

I think of this story every time you guys see the entire world through the filter of your obsession.
