How many of you tell people....

... that you spend so much time here and care so much about this show? I am just wondering.

In my last relationship we had declared our monogamy and our love and met family members before I admitted to my guilty pleasure..

What about you?

I got my boyfriend addicted...3 seasons into the show. He watched them all up to when the new season started in about a month. Gotta love him. My sister got me hooked on Lost before that, and I think my bros watch it too. Of course they all know I am addicted and that I spend a lot of time on forums and lostpedia. No one else really cares though.

Is LOST really a guilty pleasure???

I also watch American Idol and America's Next Top Model, so by comparison, LOST seems FAR more socially acceptable, respectable, and maybe even honorable. I wear my LOST badge proudly and figure if anyone else doesn't watch or "get it," it's clearly their problem.

    ;)

(The Idol and Model adulations, of course, I guard much more closely.)

NO...I don't think LOST is a guilty pleasure at all! Watching Flavor of Love or the Real Housewives of NYC...that's a guilty pleasure (something I wouldn't openly admit to tuning in to)...but LOST? There's nothing shameful about saying you're addicted to the show OR the message boards related to it. In fact, someone I recently met was thrilled to tears that I watched the show and said that was a dating "prerequisite" of his :O)

Hey, speaking of wearing my LOST proudly, do we want t-shirts???

Tribe was supposed to make t-shirts for premium members, but those are yet to be seen...

        What about LOST Tribe t-shirts?

I could whip something up and put it on one of those Cafe Press value shirts and people could buy 'em pretty cheap.

Hmmm...maybe we should have a contest to design a LOST Tribe shirt? This is such a great Tribe (and at least half the reason I even frequent Tribe). I'd love to have a shirt!

        :)

I used to never watch tv... I don't feel guilty about watching Lost, but it is weird to find myself SO damn involved, I come here like every day! A lot of "adults" seem like they would not be spending so much time thinking about a TV show.. so while I don't really feel "guilty" I was totally shy about mentioning it.

Shirts: Wow. What is this - embrace-your-shadow therapy? ;) I guess it depends on what the shirt would look like...

I like the idea of a wife-beater tees with a simple Dharma-type logo... I like simple logos...

Then again, a 1970's Teen Beat poster theme would be good on a standard shirt.. You know, something like this: A sexy closeup of Sayid that said in cursive "Sayid, We Love You!" and had a heart.. that I might have to wear.

I wouldn't wonder, joanna...I mean, they teach "Buffy" in colleges now. There's no WAY they won't end up teaching Lostology. The show's too rich and dense not to. 'Sides, it's much more coherent than the Buffyverse (and do NOT get me wrong for even one second...I loves me some Buffyverse! Joss Whedon is the single greatest writer in the TV medium, and Darlton the greatest duo. ;-) ).

We get so involved because Lost is easily the most interactive show on the air today, lending itself even further to analysis than pop-culture greats like Buffy or classic symbolism-fests like The Prisoner. Every episode, plot arc, and character references great works of literature and philosophy, modern physics and historical scientists, elements of mystery (Vile Vortices!) and archaeology (Hieroglyphics!). Oh yeah, and it's also a ripping yarn, exceedingly well-written and -acted (with only very few exceptions), taking what was great about "cult" faves like Buffy (reference stew, beloved characters), X-Files (deep, creepy mythology), Babylon 5 (unified, series-long story arc), and actually managing to make them accessible and enjoyable to both the geeky hard core AND the mass audience that's actually invested in crap like the Sawyer-Kate-Jack-Juliet love quadrangle (me? elitist? never... :-P ).

There has never before been a show quite like Lost, and there probably never will be again. We're right to treasure it while it's on and evangelize it to others (OTHERS! *snerk*) in our lives. :-)

Oh hell...I evangelize the show! If someone's in my life, they better watch Lost, dammit! I think it actually makes people better and smarter to watch and think about Lost. They didn't put an organization called DHARMA ("It also means the One True Way™." Capitalization and ™ mine) in it for nothing, after all! ;-)

          Now Supernatural...*that's* a guilty pleasure. :-P

          <<What about LOST Tribe t-shirts?>>

Hmmmmmm...I think this is a fine idea, tho the shirts from CafePress really aren't the best IME. We run a CafePress shop for Free-Association.net and even their silk-screen stuff isn't that great. And the thermal transfers...fuhgeddaboudit! We might move over to threadless or goodstorm/zazzle shop, honestly.

That said, there's some truly fab gear available over at ABC.com...

          "Numbers" gear: abctvstore.seenon.com/index.php
          DHARMA gear: abctvstore.seenon.com/index.php

Lessee, tho...what kind of Lost gear would rock that I haven't seen yet...DHARMA lab coats! (You, too, can be Dr. Candle/Wickmund/Halliwax!) And the DHARMA Parka (or "Dharka") will be THE must-have item in colder climates any old time now.

I'll have to put some thought into possible Lost Tribe designs, tho...when would we be closing submissions? (Tho regardless of what I submit, I might just have to whip up a Desmond quote shirt..."See you in another life, brotha!")

I'll start a new and separate thread by this weekend with contest guidelines and submission deadlines.

            Yay!

            :)

Nice! I like!! The faces-in-hearts idea is great, the contest sounds fun...

Also - there is a company Zazzle that you can make shirts with - anyone know them?
              www.zazzle.com

Also, Sonya, supposedly AMC is doing a remake of The Prisoner - originally set to air last year but rolled over, hope they don't screw it up too bad! And thank you for reassuring me, I do feel pretty stoked there has been such good TV the last few years after a dry spell (IMHO) for ages.

Yup...they used to be GoodStorm...so they're being the socially-conscious version of CafePress. ;-)

Well, after Mad Men and Breaking Bad, I'm starting to think that AMC is probably the best place for a remade Prisoner to be. I'm keeping my fingers crossed on that one. Showtime/Channel 4's show "Meadowlands" ("Cape Wrath" in the UK) gave me some Prisoner-like frisson, but never quite lived up to it. So, I'll be guardedly optimistic about AMC's Prisoner. :-)

I tell anyone and everyone I am enjoyably enthralled by LOST, but as 'yal have probably detected by now I am not the most covert person on the planet (...unlike the 450+ lurkers on this tribe, <ahem>, about whom I feel more curious with each additional passing day. Who are all these completely silent folks who never comment in the discussions or in/directly reveal anything about themselves? Are they actually online at all these days or did they just sign up once upon a time and then forget they have a Tribe account, or are they LOST cast and crew members whose contracts forbid them to ever say a even a single word in any way anywhere, or....? I'm not saying folks should feel in any way beholden to come forth and chatter away or disclose anything about themselves (many wonderful and bright people really are very shy), but it sure would be interesting if there was a better basis for forming a sense of the demographics of this tribe's membership than I currently think evidence exists for asserting. Can anyone suggest any demographics regarding the 500 folks in this tribe, other than we all signed up?)

The only part of my pleasure in LOST which is guilty is the part where I must confess to actually turning on the television and suffering through TV commercials (even if they are muted and are also opportunities for beverage prep or taking a whiz) rather than watching it all on DVD, as I do with everything else except for LOST. LOST is the only program which manages to get the TV switched on here, other than to provide company for the parrots while everyone is away.

      True lurkers are welcome :)

Those who've created accounts and forgotten they have 'em will be deleted from Tribe in general (not just this tribe) when Tribe's new code is implemented. The Tribemakers are rewriting everything to stabilize the system. Anyone who's not been active in the past 3 months will go "poof!"

So, I guess then we'll know who's really here. Until then, I am proud to sit at the helm of a tribe of 500.

      :)
